Fairfax County Department of Community Recreation Services recognized JPMF for providing exceptional services to the community with the Outstanding Partner Award!!!

The JPMF was awarded "Best in Category" by the National Association of Counties (NACO) for being an exemplary private and public partnership program for its work with Fairfax County Therapeutic Recreation in developing the JPMF Splash! water skills and safety program.

Mid-Eastern Symposium on Therapeutic Recreation

Paola Pizzano and Sandi Dallhoff presented a session entitled “Adapted Swim and Water Safety Programs…How do you make it happen?”. The session focused on successfully implementing a swim and water safety program for individuals with disabilities in your community while using public/private partnerships to expand your resources. The presentation provided an overview of the swim and water safety program that was developed through a partnership between the Joey Pizzano Memorial Fund, inc. and the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services, Therapeutic Recreation Section. It focused on the process for developing collaborative effort, an outline of how the program works, the challenges we have faced, the benefits each side has seen, the successes we have celebrated, and a few basic guidelines on how to maintain a successful partnership

Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) Conference
Alexandria, VA - September 2004
Teresa Byrne, Paola Pizzano and Sandi Dallhoff presented a session entitled “Get into the Splash: Establishing Public/Private Partnerships for Therapeutic Recreation Programs”. The Session focused on the trials and tribulations of establishing public/private partnerships for therapeutic recreation programs. This presentation provided an overview of the relationship between the Joey Pizzano Memorial Fund, Inc. and the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services, Therapeutic Recreation Section. We gave an overview of the program, the process for developing the collaborative effort, and highlighted some successes. We encouraged the audience to JPMF Splash! in their community by learning how to involve the private sector in maximizing their resources.
